M-Audio BX8 D3 8-Inch Active Studio Reference Monitor
The M-Audio BX8 D3 is a professional-grade, bi-amplified active studio monitor designed for critical audio editing, mixing, and mastering. As the flagship model in M-Audio’s BX series, it is engineered to deliver a flat, accurate frequency response and transparent sound reproduction, allowing producers and engineers to hear exactly what is happening in their mixes.
Key Specifications and Design
The monitor is powered by 150 watts of distributed Class A/B amplification, splitting power efficiently between an 80-watt low-frequency amp and a 70-watt high-frequency amp. It features an 8-inch military-grade Kevlar woofer that provides tight, punchy low-end down to 37 Hz, paired with a 1.25-inch natural silk dome tweeter that extends highs up to 22 kHz. The cabinet includes a rear-firing bass port to enhance low-frequency extension and a custom computer-optimized waveguide to ensure precise stereo imaging and a wide sweet spot.
Room Integration and Connectivity
To accommodate various studio environments, the rear panel includes an Acoustic Space Control switch, which allows users to tailor the low-end response (0dB, -2dB, -4dB) to compensate for boundary bass buildup when speakers are placed near walls. For physical setup, the front panel features a pin-hole LED positioning guide that shines at its brightest when the listener is sitting at the perfect monitoring angle. Input options include balanced XLR and balanced/unbalanced 1/4-inch (6.35mm) TRS connections, making it compatible with a wide range of audio interfaces and mixers.
