The dbx 166XL is a professional-grade, dual-channel dynamics processor designed to provide precise control over audio signals in live sound reinforcement, broadcasting, and studio recording environments. It combines three essential dynamic processing tools into a single rack unit: a compressor, an expander/gate, and a PeakStop limiter.
The unit utilizes advanced dbx patented technology, including OverEasy® and Hard Knee compression algorithms, allowing for smooth, transparent leveling or aggressive peak control. Its program-adaptive expander/gate features new timing algorithms to ensure smooth release characteristics without clipping or chattering. Operating in either linkable stereo or dual-mono modes, the 166XL delivers clean, distortion-free audio management with an intuitive control layout and comprehensive LED metering.
